we were just talking about how we regretted not getting anything from the waterlooplein market the first time we walked through it. we didn’t have much time in amsterdam, we walked everywhere and thought, ‘oh, we can always stop by later, it’s just near our hotel’. on our last day though (it was a Sunday), the market closed. imagine our disappointment !
waterlooplein flea market is the oldest market in The Netherlands — it first opened more than a hundred years ago. it was the only market we managed to browse through and take photos of in Amsterdam (another one is the Bloemenmarkt that i’ll post about a little later). every stall here is so unique, i remember just looking at everything and just wanting something from each stall — also the reason why we procrastinate so much with buying — because impulsive shopping is dangerous ! there were old postcards and prints, trinkets, old records, old books, antiques, vintage leather, clothings, the list goes on. even cheese. oh also some marijuana-themed products at some hippy-looking corners, but those are pretty much everywhere though.
we hope you enjoy the browse-through with us :) and if you ever find yourself here, buy a little something (because it’s too good to leave empty-handed). it opens 6 days a week, easily accessible from the Waterlooplein Station, maybe 5 mins walk away.
